WSCTE is continuing to grow into a relevant professional
organization for the 21st Century. In the past couple of years, we have developed
our web page and worked on e-mail communication. We also have offered full
day workshops. This year, our plans are expanding.
Website: We will continue to expand our website. This year we will
be adding members section, which will include the revived Washington English
Journal; journal archives, blogs, and board minutes. We hope to expand to
include more member features here as well.
"Quickshops": This fall we will be offering short workshops
on focused topics in Yakima, October 6, and Seattle,
November 10.
Newsletter: We will continue our electronic newsletter, which contains
short articles, essays, opinions, and news about coming events, issues, and
resources. Please send material for the newsletter to webmanager@wscte.org
Survey and Focus Group: We have developed a survey and a blog with
the focus on the role of WSCTE. Please take the time to fill out the survey,
available on the website and to participate in the blog available in the member
section. In addition, during the lunch breaks in both Yakima and Seattle workshop
days, we will have meetings where you may voice your ideas person to person.
Washington English Journal: We are shaking the dust off the Washington
English Journal and plan to publish it in May of 2008. Please check out the
call for submissions and consider sending in an article, personal narrative,
or poem.
Membership: This year we are working to expand our WSCTE membership.
At only $15, the dues are quite reasonable. Members receive discounts at workshops
and conferences, access to the member section of the website which will include the journal, electronic newsletters, and the knowledge
that they are supporting English Education in the state of Washington. Please
send in your membership dues and information as soon as possible. www.wscte.org/membership
Leadership: Leadership possibilities are available at WSCTE. Several
board members have served for a number of years and are looking to move on.
In addition, we are in need of a SLATE representative. In the fall of 2008,
we would like to sponsor a conference and will need volunteers to take on
the many roles involved with that as well. Please join us in Yakima at the
membership meeting or Seattle at the board meeting if you are interested in
a leadership role. If you are unable to attend, please e-mail Molly Berger
at president@wscte.org and let her know your interests.
Ideas in infancy: A number of ideas are in their infancy at WSCTE.
We are considering sponsoring a statewide high school student writing conference.
We have also considered on-going on-line professional development groups.
New ideas are always welcome. Be sure to share them with us. E-mail them to
Heather Hastie at vicepresident@wscte.org.
